"Recordings On An Empty Stomach" is a collection of six experimental pieces combining electronics, found sounds and live mixing to a dense succession of often minimalistic compositions. Gregory Talbot uses a stripped-down arrangement of synthesizers and combines them with pitched field-recordings of street scenes, machinery and speaking people. All pieces of this album evolve slowly and take their time and while each track is comprised of only a handful of sounds, they fit well together and create an atmosphere of shifting appearances and decay.
Both sides combine recordings from different time periods. While side A was recorded during October and December 2016, side B was entirely recorded during January 2017 and features the latest material of Gregory Talbot up until today. Both sides vary slightly in character too. While side A is a mix of synth-improvisation and an atmospheric tape-loop with a lot of hiss (A2 – "KM"), all three pieces on side B share the same characteristic: slow evolving sine-waves, sudden filter sweeps and interspersed field-recordings.
Born in 1972, Gregory Talbot moved to Ystad (Sweden) in 1996 and now resides in Trondheim (Norway). Early self-released records since 1998 under different pseudonyms. "Recordings On An Empty Stomach" is the first release under his full name and his first official release since 2006.
