A collection of four shorter and two longer ambient pieces, "Bayou" is the second release of Catalan Coast on Midnight Circles. While the first self-titled cassette delivered a minimalistic experimentation with synthesizer loops, "Bayou" is more tranquil and atmospheric in nature, evolving slowly with hidden alterations. Working mainly with cassette loops and manipulated field-recordings, Catalan Coast creates a recording in two distinctly different parts. Side A is based upon a slowly shifting succession of similar loops, which seem to circulate around an empty center. Side B on the other hand is an ocean-like mixture of waves of sound blending with the ubiquitous tape hiss, that hovers above all six pieces of this album.
